How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows give you a host of benefits for homeowners in Santa Fe, one being increased energy efficiency. Regardless if you’re exploring online or with an associate at a showroom, energy efficiency is a crucial factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great choice if you’re looking for improved efficiency.

Most new double-pane windows are full of argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is more dense than air, which leaves you with additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you note that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, it’s likely that you have developed a larger leak and the gas has been substituted with moisture. There are a couple things that you can do to check to see if this is what’s occurred:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to make sure that the condensation or fog you’re seeing is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you find out that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can reach out to the manufacturer to decide if you can claim it under your warranty.
Depending on how old your windows are and the conditions surrounding the leak, it might make sense to start searching for replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important features of your windows, and if that is altered it can affect your heating and cooling costs.
